The word 'veneer' refers to thin slices of wood. Wood veneer is obtained either by 'peeling' the trunk of a tree or by slicing large rectangular blocks of wood known as flitches.
There are many uses for veneers such as inlay work, car restoration and furniture, but the most popular is marquetry. Marquetry is the art of creating designs and pictures out of carefully fitted pieces of veneer wood.
